Why UNIX is so case sensitive and specific with commands?

In the late 1960's, programmers used case sensitive concept to optimize the compilers and parsers. That time computers were very slow and it was faster to compare identical strings than normalizing upper/lower case of the strings. This feature continued as the way it was followed earlier that is why we see case sensitive Unix and C.
