What is the difference between Web Server and Web Container?

Web Server sends the client information (HTTP request) to the web container.

Web container takes the resposibility of handling the Servlet's life cycle. It gives secured communication over network.

Blur line separation between Web Server and Web Container. Most of the time we will use these words inter changeable way.

Web Server: Implementation of HTTP portocol.

Web Container: Implementation J2EE Servlets specifications. It works on top of web server.
